Gem and Jewellery National Relief Foundation (GJNRF), a provided funds for the training and certification of 50 artisans in micro pave setting for jewellery.

The training was assessed by the Gem & Jewellery Skill Council of India (GJSCI), the industry body tasked with enhancing and upgrading of worker skills in the gem and jewellery sector.

The training lasted around 150 hours and was carried out over a period of 4-5 weeks. Nearly half of the certified jewellery artisans have been successfully employed by companies such as Kama Schachter, Uni-Design, Jasani and Intergold. The remaining candidates would also be placed with other reputed companies.

In a statement, GJSCI noted that the pandemic-driven migration of workers to their hometowns in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Rajasthan, etc. has led to a major vacuum among the skilled workforce in the gems and jewellery industry. Sanjay Kothari envisioned reaching out and filling this vacuum of highly skilled artisans by offering funds for the fresh training of candidates and providing employability. In a subsequent industry study, the job role of ‘microsetter’ was identified as having maximum demand.

In the future too, GJNRF would continue to fund such projects and also assist with providing placements to these candidates.
