Trustees of Gem & Jewellery National Relief Foundation had a meeting with Lt. General H.S. Kahlon, GOC, Maharashtra, Gujarat & Goa area on April 19, 2022 to review various relief and welfare projects undertaken for support of families of the Indian army. The meet took place during a visit of the army official to the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) in Mumbai.

The GJNRF Board members made a brief presentation on the projects they had taken up post the 1999 Kargil War and thereafter. These included construction of Diamond AWWA Hostel near Mumbai University with the capacity of 100 students, Gem & Jewellery Defence Welfare Corpus to provide scholarships to about 1,500 children of defence personnel every year, provision of computers to Army schools, provision of medical equipment to Army Hospitals and support during the Covid pandemic.

A short film highlighting relief activities carried out by GJNRF was also shown.

Speaking on the occasion, Sanjay A. Kothari, Chairman, GJNRF & Chairman, GJSCI, offered assistance to increase capacity by building an additional floor at the Diamond AWWA Hostel. He also mentioned various skill training programmes offered by the GJSCI, where selected participants receive a stipend and are usually guaranteed jobs post completion of the course. He requested the GOC to consider sending children of army personnel for such courses.

Anoop Mehta, President BDB also spoke about the bourse and the relief activity it took up during the pandemic, including provision of supplies to the Army.

Lt. General H.S. Kahlon, GOC acknowledged and appreciated the relief and welfare work done by GJNRF for the Army and for the society.  He requested the members to visit the Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre at Pune which provides holistic and lifelong care to the injured ex-servicemen from the Armed Forces.

The meeting concluded with the vote of thanks by Ramnikbhai P. Shah, Managing Trustee of GJNRF.
